RAMPAGE

this little gem is the second effort by aussie director george something who made the strange but interesting film, soundtrack to war. man, 3 links already! anyways ... it's about 1 dude who he filmed in iraq and his family life in the miami riot region. growing up with all the violence and abuse and bad shit has certainly had an impact on 3 brothers who, through the use of rap and rhyme deal with life until one of the brothers is killed by another gang. it's pretty scary, the fact that he's filming all this stuff and even acknowledges that he might have had a part in marcus's death. but, the youngest brother uses that pain to try and make a deal with a record company. but, america isn't ready to hear a 14 yr old kid talking about his brother getting sprayed with bullets. it's a fascinating insight into the lives of african-american residents that live in a war zone in the picture perfect world of miami, florida. highly recommended viewing and a very impressive and daring documentary.

ONE DAY IN SEPTEMBER

before he directed forest whitaker to an oscar for last king of scotland, kevin macdonald made this oscar winning doco about the munich olympics massacre. narrated by michael douglas, macdonald explores the events that took place in a pretty straight forward manner, but the detail he manages to accomplish by talking to the only living member of the assassination team is outstanding. also talking to several key players who at the time had an involvement in the ordeal, we learn how and why it all happened and the effect it had on the people in munich at the time. through the use of archival footage, newsreels and interviews, this film paints a very real and sometimes painful reminder of what took place that one day in september.

another one bits the dust

yes... just about a year ago i reckon i said goodbye to SIX FEET UNDER ... a fucking milestone in TV... and, now... i come to farewell THE SOPRANOS...

oh im so depressed... i know its stupid... but i have been watching this show for sooo long now and im the only one i know that has stuck with it... mmm all over... anyways.. after all the bitching and complaining about the final ever episode... i was so nervous and excited and scared of ending it all... and then when it came... man, one of the most tense scenes i've ever seen in my life...

i wasn't mad or upset like those thousands of americans that wanted justice... i was amazed and ... i dunno... i was like... just excited... there is something about the song they used... journey's - don't stop believin' - always gets me... it was used during the credits of MONSTER and i always thought it was an awesome song!

but... as you can imagine... my mind hasn't been able to think about anything else... i have been going over so many theories in my head and i even dreamt about what happened after the scene cut to black.... i came across one theory on youtube and even though no-one else watches this show i will post it for all to watch...

Tony is the first to arrive at Holsten's for a family dinner. He sits in a booth and plays a song on the jukebox, watching the door. Carmela enters and joins him, asking about his meeting with Mink. He tells her Carlo's gonna testify and she takes the news with a sigh. AJ arrives next, complaining about the more mundane tasks of his job but quotes old advice from his father: "Try to remember the times that were good." Meanwhile, Meadow struggles to parallel park outside. Customers come and go - a shady looking guy who's been sitting at the counter enters the restroom. Finally parking the car, Meadow runs inside to join her family, just in time for dinner.

weekly round-up

ok... it's been a while since i just typed away and wrote i whole lotta crap about stuff. so here i go.

if you have spoken to me lately... im sure even before i have said hello to you, the words "i have broadband" are almost slapped into you. yess.s.s... i am loving it. in 1 night, yes... like 5 hrs - i downloaded about 7 episodes of the last season of sopranos. yeh, that show that just ended. like that. bam.

anyways... i have also downloaded the tv show "friday night lights" which i heard lots of good things about. i liked the movie and therefore thought why not?? even though the whole football scene freaks me out, i love the whole "ritual" thing about it and im sure the cast is full of hotties which will make it all the more fun to watch. STEVE HOLT!

...

in what might be the biggest nerd factor thing i have done in recent times... nah, make that my life... i bought the dr who soundtrack.

yes.. i caved because it was cheap and i love the show and i always thought it had a pretty decent score. after listening to it a few times, i might have made a little mistake... it's a little bit repetitive and very ... sad. i dunno, not that much mix of different styles and instruments as i was expecting. still good and emo and makes me think of all the fun times i had with the doctor and billie. oh... they were the days!!!

...

also bought my second LOST figurine. ... i know, im sounding like a whore for the product... but i love to buy things. im pretty, pretty, pretty weak.

obviously it was charlie if any of you were interested.. and, since he met his demise on the show, i thought it was a good time to bring him back into my life. i already have locke, so it was a good match i thought. final purchase will be mr eko who is sooo cool and who also died. mmm. oh, it was half price and not very expensive if anyone was still wondering/caring!

...

so i need to buy a good coat/jacket. every bitch in melbourne has a hot coat/jacket protecting themselves from the incredibly over the top weather we are having. im not sure on where to exactly get one from though. im sure there is a place where they all go get them from but i have no idea where. i also am pretty scared about prices.

i guess it's an investment... just looking online the prices aren't tooooo bad. mmm better start saving or sell some of my dvds...

went back to the gym for the first time in ages... it was good and i was suprised i could still run for 30 mins non-stop... but to the point. there's this trainer who didnt have much hair, infact, he was like nearly effing bald. he is totally ripped and all that shit... but i guess its no good when you have to get a HAIR TRANSPLANT... now, to be honest, i havent been there for a week and a bit... but seriously... no ones hair grows that much... fucking hell. he has a small animal on there or something. but he is running around smiling and i totally caught him out staring at a couple of girls... he saw i saw and then it was awkward. i have no real way of asking anyone... i dont talk to any of the staff and even my trainer that i had at the beggining i avoid like the effing plague. anyway. it was dum and akward and he is sooo busted re: hair plugs. ewww... made me think of tobias.

ok, i couldnt find the right image... but this as also a funny moment.

mmm i'm done. see you later

only 4 more sleeps!!!

at the movies with me!

feast

incase you didnt know, this little flick is the latest winner of "project green light" over in the states... but dont let that put you off. only made for a million bucks its pretty effing bloody. i think the whole budget went into buckets of blood and guts. story is pretty simple.. "there are some mother fucking creatures coming in here.. you better listen to me if you wanna survive!!!" then the fucking chaos begins. limbs and brains are all over the place as a select group of people try to fight for their lives against these hella weird creatures. the action is pretty full on and frenetic... i wouldnt recommend for epilepsy sufferers. characters are all average and there is alot of fun to be had watching people covered in alien vomit, blood, brains, organs ... limbs ... EVERYTHING! i would be interested to see what the other choices were for P.G 2005 but apparently this was the best of the lot. henry rollins has a good little role and there are quite a few jokes spread through-out the film. no one was safe. not the wheel-chair kid, the 6 yr old child and the cliche HERO character. points for that.

letters from iwo jima

this is the other side to the coin re: "flags of our fathers" ... clint eastwood does it again in creating an epic but simple story that captures the whole war vibe. shot almost entirely in japanese it's basically about kids that dont wanna fight and are scared and write letters. the film has some awesome cinematography... i LOVE the muted colour palette and hand-held camera work by tom stern. i LOVE the choreographed action scenes and all the explosions. i LOVE the japanese way of dying with honour and all that jazz. actually, there wasnt much to this film i didnt like or love. i thought the running time would be a slight annoyance... but the 2 & a half hours seemed to fly by like a bomber air craft. ken watanabe from last samurai & batman begins gives another great performance as the general who is determined to fight to the end. most of the supporting cast is great too... showing us a very interesting perspective to the war. in conclusion letters is a very compelling and fine example of war movies!

transformers

ok. so, there wasnt more to meet my eye in this film. basically an excuse for michael bay to make alot of money and give us all some LOUD NOISES and spectacular action sequences. not that theres anything wrong with that. anyways, kid buys car. its a robot. gotta find cube. dont let bad robots get near it. gotta fall in love with ridiculously hot chick. theres your story.but the action. PHEW! bay certainly delivers on that. having never watched the cartoon as a kid i have no connection to this film, i went in with an open mind just expecting something average and totally kick-ass. yeh, its here... but it certainly wasnt average. michael bay is a boys director and he certainly knows how to shoot a movie for the guys. lots of guns, military is photographed always very patriotically... sun behind them... slow motion... guns going off.. and the women are all covered in sweat and shown from low angles. i was a fan of shia labeouf and am interested in him now that he's in INDY IV ... special effects were incredible and i never thought i would get so excited about car chases... thats until they turn into fucking robots while speeding down the effing highway. hmm... yeh, im sure everyone in the world will see this movie. so, i should just end it with .... SEQUEL!!!

the black dahlia

meh. what a wasted opportunity. all the ingredients were there. but like my scones from about 2 weeks ago they just didnt rise to the occasion. HA! SNAP. anyways... pretty girl gets murdered then detectives all have a go at trying to find out what happened. i was confused and annoyed at pretty much everything in this film. not even scarlett could save me!!! some good scenes and PD are scattered through-out the film but i couldnt get past the fucking accent on hillary swank (sorry to disagree with you david) and her fucking mother who was not even a good nutcase but a fucking idiot acting like someone who had "lost the plot" (embarrassing much?) ... yeh, not happy when i waste 2 hrs of a film and it doesnt deliver. HMM ... i havent seen earlier de palma work so i had nothing to compare it to. the only thing i can compare it to was l.a confidential ... which was so much better. i will give it kudos for some nice cinematography, music, costumes and art direction. but story and acting pretty much all stank. sorry brian!!!

the last king of scotland

finally i got to see what all the fuss was about re: "that performance" ... forrest whitaker got the oscar and it was well deserved. although, james mc avoy does a pretty, pretty, pretty good job of matching his main star!! so... its all about this scottish doc (who is gorgeous) going to uganda to help and then becomes idi amin's personal aide/advisor/doctor and pretty much anything else that goes on. under kevin macdonald's (touching the void) direction the story flows at a great pace and with writing responsible for helen mirrens "the queen" it's understandable why the film has some great moments. the cinematography by hand-held expert anthony dod mantle (dogville, maderlay, 28 days later) and the production design of capturing the whole 70's thing is fantastic. i was impressed that it was actually shot on location in uganda and that IT WASN'T REAL. i thought it was.... but i was WRONG! brilliant writing and story-telling and acting and I LOVE AFRICA!!!

1 degree of seperation

ok. i have a link to a terrorist. it's official. i'm sooo excited as this totally makes my life 1 step closer to being like 24! so, before they arrest me for telling you all this... read it and copy it and make sure everyone knows the truth about that doctor from the gold coast...

"HE'S LOVELY"

yes... you heard it here first!!! this comes straight from my mothers mouth who has actually spoken to him on several occasions as he is the very man that nursed my nana from her death-bed!!!

it so doesn't make sense that he would be a bomber... he is a doctor... saving lifes... and then killing... maybe he justifies it that way. so apparently my nana; who has recently been sick on the gold coast has been seeing Mohammed Haneef to help her breathe again.

"it can't be true ben. he's such a lovely man... oh... i don't think he can be a terrorist... nana and i always talked to him and he was very nice"

trust my mother and nana to be best buds with a terrorist. seriously.. i could see a good sitcom out of this... him driving a bus with explosives and nana wanting to stop to buy oranges before reaching his target... or my mother yapping off his ear with stock market info while he has a bomb strapped to his body. unable to leave to reach his remote detonator.

the effing possibilities are endless. submit your own NOW!!
