There is a Cat in the Gutter

so i been watching LOST lately... thanks to rob i got all the latest episodes and ohhh... it's been sooo good lately. im pretty much up to date with the U.S ... so, i mean, i cant really talk about it too much without ruining it - but if you have been having doubts - dont - coz it really has come a LONG way since the season began..

as i type all this up i am listening to the smooth sounds of missy higgins's's's new album which is... yeh... pretty much like the first one.. the other one had more memorable songs i think... but this one is just the same old jazz and whiny tones we are used to.

so work has been pretty good lately... i am FINALLY settling in to the place and know everyones name. over the past week its been pretty mental with mothers day i guess and just general sale stock ... baywatch, scrubs, happy feet ... so we (in the DVDs department) devised a way to make the time go faster by playing word association game... basically you say a movie and then the next person has to say a movie starting with the first letter of the last word... let me demonstrate...

lost in translation
total recall
rabbit-proof fence
fight club
children of men
mr & mrs smith

etc etc.... there were a few rules and things... but it is a pretty good game to play when you are bored and you have nothing else to do. and it is also good when you know people that can deliver some good slash correct answers. so, i will open it up to you at home so post your answers in the comments section and have an online game of word association.

sooooooooooooooo... got my tickets to spider-man 3 the other day... fucking hell... i didn't realise that so many dorks and losers like me had already beaten me to it. i had to pick the best seats possible for opening night ... and i think i did pretty good considering the options. although i have been hearing poor reviews for it ... and people (nerds) being overall disappointed with it ... i have hopes that it will just be good bang for my buck material and will leave with a sense of wanting to jump off the top of Melbourne central shooting my webs everywhere.

my new favourite cheap meal is this...

well, not exactly that .... but all they do, is take one of these...

and then put a scoop of 100% fat full cream ice-cream that is the best stuff around.

for a limited offer ... you can get 2 for 1 !!! yes... i swear it is true... it's a saving of $4.95 ... mental.

just came across a cool picture i am going to use without permission.

that is seriously the most exciting stuff i have to right about... i will leave you now with a quote from some smart kids on the train...

"so what ... i know a girl who's name is victoria ... we call her tori.. her parents are divorced and she is school captain"

they really do say the darn est things

Mr. Potter

God I hope this is coming to Melbourne!!!

...Make 'Em Laugh

are we sitting comfortably.. good.. then we shall begin.

i thought i would use the same kinda format as my last post. it's easier to read if everything in life has sub-headings.

BIG BROTHER

ok. total let down. dinner was excellent thanks to the tacos. and carol. yummo. so, ended up watching ugly betty and only a bit of big brother but planning to catch up on everything tonight. it's kinda funny though, everyone at work watches it. all the girls discuss and debate it. so i kinda basically know what is going on from just going to work.

SOLO - a review...

meh. seriously. after involving myself in fucking hours of bonus material for this film, watching the making of i was totally .. well, pretty disappointed. another aussie crime movie to add to the list of two hands, gettin' square, dirty deeds... it had some good moments... and it was good to see it on screen after ALL the effort that went into it. but, overall i was pretty meh about it. the ending had a little "twist" which none of us really guessed. the editing was shithouse and it made me feel like i was having a fucking epileptic fit with all its fucking jumpcuts!!! cinematography was average... the colour was sooo bleak-house it was making me want to paint a rainbow. WHAT IS WITH AUSTRALIAN FILMS AND NOT BEING ABLE TO GET GOOD COLOUR!!! WE HAVE SO MANY FUCKING OSCAR WINNING AUSSIE CINEMATOGRAPHERS... WHERE ARE THEY? WORKING OVERSEAS FOR AMERICA AND GETTING A SHITLOAD OF MONEY!! sorry about that. but it really gets up my goat. the music was weak - a pissy jazz score. i'm being a little harsh i think. but... meh.

STRANGELOVE - THE MUSICAL

so last night i went to watch a comedy show in the city. you can probably guess what it was about. i haven't seen the movie (yes, everyone say WHAT!? and then get over it) and i wasn't really sure what to think. it was a small little theatre about 45 stairs into the earth. a pretty small cast of "actingers" put on this show about the bomb and all that jazz. in the first few minutes it looked like it could go either way. but as soon as they started to sing and talk and be American i was hooked. it LOVED to make me wanna do theatre again. i was sooo into it. all the songs were funny and fast and the humor was in some moments cheap laughs and smart. anyways, if you get a chance to go see it i would recommend it as it was funny and a neat little production.

thats about all the highlights i have right now. i have 7 new fucking episodes of LOST to watch and i am SO excited. talk soon bitches.

p.s - sorry for the amount of 'f' words in that post.

Just Lately... No Pictures.

so, not much to report really... just been watching second season of twin peaks and i'm nearly finished. like 3 episodes to go before the FINALE!!!

i dont know how to descrive this show. it's just fantastic. this is like the 8th time i have harped on about this show so i am going to stop now.

meanwhile, i was at work last night and i was talking to nathan from games and we got chatting about girls because he was looking on this site that has miss x-box, miss playstation, miss nintendo etc etc... it was pretty funny because some of them had total glamour shots and then others looked like they were taken from a ralph magazine except they are holding a game controller.

ANYWAYS... this lead into the point of the conversation... which basically is... all the girls at JB are hot. i have had this theory for quite some time but never actually voiced it as i thought i was maybe just imagining it... but... i dont know.. i really seriously have nothing else to blog about... but if you're in a JB store... just check out for the local talent... im guessing they are at least a 8 on the hot or not scale.

in other news li-kim and i watched the trailer for that new adam sandler movie ... where they pretend to be gay to get out of tax shit... anyways.. it was...

SO FUCKING OFFENSIVE!!!

how can something like that get made??? oh my god. seriously. fuuuuuck. if you see it coming, shut your eyes and block your ears knowing that you will go to heaven and every single one of your sins will be forgiven if you avoid that film...

PROJECT GREENLIGHT

you might have read on butlers blog that we have been watching the behind the scenes of the movie 'solo' ... it was the winner of the australian version of the capslocked title above. it's pretty good... we are 2 discs down so far - 8 episodes - and it is extremely interesting HOW much goes into making a movie. i know like, from watching king kong & superman & lotr's ... but when you think about what might be a dodgy aussie film... there is a SHITLOAD of work that goes on. mental. the process has been painful, funny, fucking painful, awkward, insightful and eye opening. all i can say is the film better be good.

BIG BROTHER

just when you thought it was safe to watch channel 10 again... it's not. or it is. whatever. im going to watch it. i know i will. i am not going to lie and say i wont and tell everyone that i wont. because i will. and i will probably become addicted and compelled because that's the kinda guy i am. a sucker... and i mean MASSIVE sucker for anything with an intense advertising campaign.

talk to you all tomorrow night after it has finished!!!

Another List & A Story

even though i am still poor and i owe people money... (although, where is my 65 bucks sarahK) i thought i would write a list of things i need to buy as i find it therapeutic to do so.
  • priscilla - fabulous edition
  • elizabeth (helen mirren)
  • magnolia soundtrack
  • LOST season 2 soundtrack
  • spider-man 3 IMAX tickets
  • kath & kim
  • happy feet
  • extras - season 2
  • wilfred
and many more...

meanwhile, the iPod has been picked up and i spent pretty much all of my wednesday night tv bonanza setting it up. it's so new and scratch-free it makes me sick. but carol is happy because i loaded the new harry potter trailer on there which looks BLOODY BRILLIANT (say in ron voice)

oh, my funny story from last week i forgot to tell everyone.

at the tram stop at bourke street and i was without my iPod so i was listening to everyones conversations...

"have a chippy... here pidgy, pidgy, pidgy... have a chippy..."

she was slightly bummy and well, its safe to say she was a bogan... it got better though...

"HAVE A FUCKING CHIP YOU PIDGY CUNT !!!" ... "come on... pidgy, pidgy, pidgy... get your fucking chippy."

oh man, it was hilarious. she kept screaming and then whispering ...

"oh, you dont want a chip? okay... i am not going to give you one... they aren't bloody cheap these days... i havent eaten either so stop asking me for one... you missed your chance."

WHAT.

THE.

FUCK?

Itchy Neck

yeh... it sucks... i got an itchy neck from this shirt. i cant change it because it's the only 1 i have here.

im at carols and waiting for the time to pass so i can go to the gym and not be peak hour. so, im waiting for a load of washing to finish and also importing all her music again to make them mp3 files so when she has her brand new black iPod she can be on the go like BAM!

in other news i saw sunshine on the weekend and it was sooo BAM, BAM i nearly lost the plot. well, in some ways i did... see latest article here where i managed to go "too far" ... but, nahh the movie was really good... very intense and lots to see and look at... good cast, music was good... effects and scientific jargon was all top notch.

other movies i watched recently were the oscar winning "murder on a sunday morning" & "the girl in the cafe"

the first was a doco about this black kid who shoots a white woman in the face and the police trying to pin this case on this kid who is 15 and looks about as innocent as a baby... it's a fucking joke to think that police in america are like this and dont even bother trying to look for a weapon, dust for prints, go door knocking and the list goes on... it was made by some frenchie who also made "the staircase" which was a mini-series about a murder trial as well... sunday morning is definately worth a look if you like a good court case and enjoy police and any law officials making a complete dickface of themselves!!!

secondly, lass in a coffee shop was written my richard curtis ... who is responsible for love actually, 4 weddings & a funeral and all those other lovely love stories... this is no different... basically its about 1 old man who has a pretty boring and sad life and then he meets this young and cute and hot girl (sounds like lost in translation... but wait for it... they meet...) in a cafe. they start a little relationship because he is sad and she is also sad (but in a different way) ... it's interesting because it is set around the G8 summit in iceland in 2005 and is all about poverty, aid, trade and helping out africa... i thought that was a cool location and thing to explore... so, she tags along and spends her time questioning what he is doing and then basically shit goes down and he loses the girl and has to get her back. or does he? bill nighy & whats her name are quite good together and in the end as always i was totally sucked in and the use of music by sigur ros and the photography of the iceland landscape got me... mmm 3 stars.

I HAVE TO GET FUCKING JOB ON THIS!!!

Australia set to score $150m deal for war epic

Rachel Browne April 8, 2007

THE multimillion dollar sequel to Steven Spielberg's acclaimed World War II series, Band Of Brothers, is bound for Australia. Production of the sequel, titled The Pacific, is expected to be confirmed this month.

With a budget of more than $150 million, the 10-part series is the most expensive ever made in Australia.

While the producers - Home Box Office, Tom Hanks's Playtone and Spielberg's DreamWorks - have not made an official comment about The Pacific, they have set up a production office in Melbourne and commenced casting.

The cameras are expected to start rolling in August, with locations to include Far North Queensland, Melbourne and the Northern Territory.

The sequel to Band Of Brothers focuses on the US involvement in the war in the Pacific and is anticipated to be based in Australia for close to a year.

It will employ about 280 Australian actors, including almost 20 male leads and at least 250 in supporting roles or as extras.

Producers have chosen to base the series at Melbourne's Central City Studios over Sydney's Fox Studios or Warner Roadshow Studios on the Gold Coast.

AusFilm chief executive officer Mark Woods said a production as big as The Pacific would be a significant boost to the Australian film business.

"A production of the size and scale of The Pacific shooting in Australia would transform the local film industry," he said. "It is a huge production. If it does end up based here, it would be very exciting."

Australia has lobbied heavily for The Pacific to be based here.

Get Smart

Hit Me Up!

so... trying to get you all down on the recent events of recent times.

tuesday 10th

bessie stayed over and from ballarat also came gen (piggy) & megz (megan im assuming) ... not being a social/night owl i had no ideas on what to do for entertainment. i suggested we eat on brunswick street and then go back to my house and maybe play pub trivia. oh men. oh man.

WHAT FUN! we were all sober and we had so much stupid fun. we won 2 bottles of wine for just dumb luck and we didnt do too bad in the actual trivia either. keeping in mind we had all our mobile phones texting and at some dire moments calling people for answers. so, thanks to li-kim for being my internet source and at least giving us 10 points. i was noticing though that they trivia guy was going around to everyone and giving away answers. annoyed. things i learnt...
  • J was the last letter to be added in the 15th century
  • 8 mile is 1 of 6 the most successful "musicals" of all time
  • i have a really bad memory
but... fun times... that finished at about 1am it seemed as he liked to talk and talk and eat during his performing duties. pretty much went for a walk and then to bed.

wednesday 11th

all went into the city for breakfast. note- never goto "meetoo" melbourne central ... the big breakfast was TINY i even finished half of carols and it was just enough to satisfy my hunger.

A BIG BREAKFAST NEEDS THE FOLLOWING...
  • maybe 4 bits of bacon
  • 2 or 3 eggs
  • toast... least 2 pieces
  • mushrooms
  • 2 tomato halves
  • spinach
  • 1 hash brown
  • 2 sausages
  • baked beans
  • fried onion
i think that is not asking for too much. anyway... then went to city and met up with gen&megz and had to watch them eat lunch and then they all went and shopped as i went to the gym.

so, i havent been going as much as i should ... i am "paying through the nose for that, it is silly money" ... needless to say i pretty much destroyed myself with exercise and am only just recovering my legs who have felt like jelly because of the squats and lunges i performed. my new treadmill motivation device is the "300" soundtrack. nothing makes me run faster than pretending im holding a spear and running like a spartan. no, seriously. it's so fucking loud and bold and makes me want to go to war. only if i was like the cheerleader from heroes. so, i'll probably head back in today and JOG ON!

in other news...

carol got a new phone. put a lay-buy on what i think was an iPod ... i couldnt actually tell as the guy was speaking like he had just injected a mixture of red bull, speed, coffee and probably an E ... he seriously was "pewwing" like nobody's business. if i see you, maybe i will show you how it went. but...

I DON'T DO REQUESTS!!!

so... probably going to see SUNSHINE tonight. looks pretty coo. good cast and a director that is always up for something new (millions) or controversial (the beach) ...

OH MY GOD... TWIN PEAKS...

yes... it was pretty much bought straight away. li-kim and i watched 2 episodes and wept like fucking babies. not because we are sad or mental... but because david lynch is a fucking mastermind nutcase... seriously.. it's like someone gave a crazy a directorial position. has anyone ever checked to see if he is there? highlights include...
  • crazy fucking mother
  • crazy singing father
  • boy in tuxedo holding creamed corn
  • bob
  • 1 armed man selling shoes
  • the fucking donuts

enough pictures... they really fuck with my formatting. and i should also get some breakfast.

thanks for reading...

I'm Sorry!!! Sorry, Sorry, Sorry, Sorry Sor...

I'm so sorry. You only have to look at the perfect spelling and punctuation of this one sentence to realise that I truly am. In a fit of anger I accidently went to the opening session of 300.

BUT IT WAS AWESOME!!!

Little Voice

so... went to see sarah blasko the other day after work.

CHAOS! thought we were seriously not going to make it after tram/train and every other form of transport were delaying us.

anyways... finally got there after an amazing race-esque run to the national theatre (which, to get there just take the no. 16 tram and will take you right there) and we met some pretty fabulous people who were also off to go.

mmm... so, get there and theres a lot of empty seats... and she comes out in all her glory and says...

"there's a lot of empty seats ... i might be breaking theatre rules but can everyone just move to the front..."

like a fucking plague of people trying to get on a lifeboat as the titanic is sinking they scrambled for a prime position. including us. so, we ended up about 6 rows in front of where we were.

sooo cool. anyways... needless to say it was a good night and her voice and little dancing skills were fantastic. although i dont know much of her music (my knowledge consists of little fish flame trees) i was really moved and it was pretty amazing that people (her) can just use her voice and make me get goosebumps. and then there was the piano, cello, violin, trumpet, flute ... and the fucking drummer was hella good. and then there was the main singer dude from augie march making a cameo.

so... overall i was really happy and it was a "splendid" night. after that it was time to dine on acland st. which was actually not as scary as i thought it would be. i had a really good chicken salad and carol had gnocchi. mmm.

ok. gotta go. carol's freaking out coz she has eggs to paint.

p.s - here is a picture of the "gorgeous" sarah blasko.

One Night Only

ok... let's flash back to a couple of days ago to the 31 march 2007 when i took a trip to ballarat to see bessie's latest play...
now, she'd been saying how shit it was going to be for some time... and the fact that i hadn't heard anything about it got me also a little worried. so, i took the v-line to geelong (which was suprisingly cheap) and met laura in the mcdonalds... reluctantly i bought a medium cheeseburger meal and it was somewhat satisfying. after a fairly average and safe drive (thanks laura) we ended up at ballarat smack on the dot of 7pm. so, we had about 20 minutes to kill after we got changed in the car into our theatre clothes.

walking into the theatre holding pen i saw all the fab people that are in bessie's class and it was hug central. "PIGGY ... havent seen you in sooo long!!" etc etc ... after seeing the gang it was off to get our seats and watch the play. this big woman then walked to the stage who looked like she was a mix between that woman who bitches on about over 60's health insurance and somone who was off to the oscars. she went on about how proud she was of the play and how the kids were off to LON DON to perform the play and how it was the first time that this play had been performed in AUS TRALIA !!! i was like... WHAAAAT?

pretty impressed already. two hours later it was all over. words to describe it are...
  • rich
  • fabulous
  • impressive
  • hilarious
  • amazing
  • p.d (fhhhh)

and so on and so on. but seriously... it was a mixture of shakespeare and moulin rouge and 80's glam clothing... it was called "A Cat's Wit" (i tired googling for more info but nothing came up!)

being opening night there was free alcohol and food which i made sure i was a part off. lavish platters of ham and cheese and olives and so much other delights were arranged on two tables that never left my sight. anyways... two champagne's later i was off my face and needless to say stuffing in as much free ham and shit as i could.

until i picked up some turkey.

it was soooooooooooooooooooooooo awful i had to spit it out. but no bins. i wasnt going to eat it. or carry it around for the whole night. so... i did the only thing i could i guess. i just left it on the table. a HUGE chunk of meat on the table. oh man it was hilarious. a red wine later i went back to the platter to get some nice shaved ham. i took a bit. it ripped. i took some more. it ripped. i wasnt happy. i tried picking it up another way. suddenly, i have approx. 260 grams worth of ham in my fingers. it just wouldnt end. fuck. and now i couldnt just put that in my pocket for later ... or leave it on the table. so, what did piggy do? he ate right then on the spot, about 300 grams of smoked ham. i felt soooo sick. i turned around.

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT?

there were salad wraps. hiding in the corner. oh man, i was all over that like a rash.

(im starting to realise how boring this story might be if you werent there)

anyways... another 2 red wines later i was well and truly in good spirits and kicking it back old school with bessie and laura. just like the old days. and after about 30 mins of kissing ass and telling everyone how good they were it was time to move on. across the road to a bar called "mover" or "kinder" or something with an "er" on the end. had another drink. spoke to more fab people. time flies. 2 am. BAM. time to go home and hit the gravy barn.

this was my first time out in "the rat" and this was something of an institution. basically a deep fried shop that opens at midnight and sells everything covered in gravy. fucking genius really. not to mention a gold mine. everyone wants that shit at 2 am.

after eating some hot chips and then eating some other guys left-overs on the side of the road it was time to get a cab home. seriously, 5 bucks down the road we were home. just like that. and... pretty much fell asleep instantly.
