man, this movie was soo good. authentic and realistic. funny and scary. sad and happy. mmm it had all the elements. based on experiences by the director himself, it follows the story of this young kid who after getting bullied meets a group of skinheads and makes friends with them. they start hanging out and eventually he becomes caught up in some BAAAD shit and then it pretty much hits the fan in the end.the young kid, Thomas Turgoose who plays shaun is amazing. he's like 6 and he's swearing and able to understand and play along with all this intense shit. the other standout was Stephen Graham playing combo ... a messed up skinhead nutter, recently released from prison.
this film is totally grounded in the 80's. everything is soo real. the PD-o-meter was going off the charts in this film. costumes, music, houses... props... it's like watching a doco. crazy!as i said, this film had some totally 'LOL' moments and then switched into fucking scary territory. powerful performances and a fascinating subject make THIS IS ENGLAND one of my favourite movies of the year!
