currently sitting in an un-used corridor where i think they shuttle mini buses of waste down. it's also where tiger airways customers wait for flights that have been delayed for up to 2 hours!

and so, this is me. arriving after a stressful car trip with mum (what is it with her and airports, she can never frakkin calm down and chill) i arrived to the tiny fucking shoebox check-in desk for tiger airways. all i can say is thank god i brought my macbook with me and thank god i can use the internet through my iphone. anyways, i guess this gives me the chance to go to the toilet; something i should've done at nana's ... and update the blog and fill you guys in on what's been going on.

it's rather hot today in QLD, and i know at the moment that in MELBOURNE it's going to be absolutely pouring with rain... so, i am not looking forward to me lugging all my shit back whilst my gradual tanning moisturiser leaves me streakier than a fucking caramel latte on a zebra. at least i was able to get a tan before christmas/summer so i can be all snobby and look down at those pale bastards who have no complexion. that'll give me some satisfaction. not.

what was 12 days away certainly did feel like 3-4 weeks... and during my stay i did manage to fit a lot into or onto my plate. visited all the immediate family. saw both grandparents, who each have their own lifestyles. nana, who lives in a 2 bedroom unit, or, as i have dubbed it, the cat museum- has more fucking cat/tiger merchandise than the gift shop at werribee open zoo.

during my night at the museum, i found some old old OLD photo albums which were full of family photos that i'd never seen before. it was all really quite fascinating. after scanning a few albums, i came across something that, i am sure i'd heard about at some stage in my life, but until now, totally forgot.

my mother had been previously married before my father. at the ripe age of 21. gross. i guess in the 70's everyone was fucking bonkers, so it shouldn't be that surprising yeh? well, it was like one of those moments where the camera tracks in and the fucker zooms all the way out so the background was all "zrrrrooooooopppp" crazy. it was like i had discovered some family secret, or it felt like i was on an episode of "who the fuck do you think you are" ... except i had no one that was interested or cared when i was looking into the camera that was not filming me. also learnt of nana's new endeavour to donate her body to the university where they can cut her open and have a squiz at her insides. much like gunther. my nana will be gunther-ized. hopefully these kids will wear more trendy hat wear. that's all i can ask.

also during my stay i popped in to see well, my pop. grandpa. whatever. he was lounging around like the king of fucking egypt on his poolside whatever they're called and cracked the usual joke. he looks actually quite good for someone who had a stroke a year ago. it was good to see he hadn't changed.. not much to say about my 3 hours there. he asked me about my shoes. i went for a swim in his pool. he had some witty banter with his partner... who, is kinda like my stepmother... and then, mum and i went on our way. i did manage to get a photo of the 3 generations of CHUAH - so, i guess what was worth it.

spent some good quality time with my work-a-holic father. 4 days. 12 hour shifts. bonkers. but, that's just how he is. as david brent said in the office, "orientals make great workers" ... and he couldn't be more right. turns out dad cut his finger open whilst cleaning a wok at work. he cut the tendon so his middle finger couldn't bend at the top joint. so, as son, it was my duty to accompany dad to the hospital. the hospital that i was born in, 24 years ago. so nostalgic. i tried to find the location where i am pictured the first day i was born, but it had been totally renovated, much like all of noosa, so the chances were pretty slim. but after dad came out of the hospital, i think he made a deliberate detour to go past his HONDA motor bike store so he could show me some new toys and shiny bikes. heheheh. i went along and managed to snap a couple of pics of him inside the store.

another highlight of staying with dad is a BBQ. he still cooks his meat on the same set up as we had as kids. just a hole in the ground with some bricks and then a grill plate. he collects the wood from the forest that surrounds the 57 bedroom house he lives in, and then waits to the wood burns down to ashes and charcoal. and then, presto. yummo.

speaking of food, i managed to finally watch julie & julia, the last movie by mrs i can do anything streep. anyways, she was good... but the movie lacked any major conflict or ethnic diversity. meh. white people cooking white meals. with butter. and cream. more butter and more cream. whatever. as if you wouldn't get the size of a fucking house eating this kinda food? anyways, tangent. but yeh, fluffy.. but Meryl is always amazing to watch.

ok, i think i need to go find a bathroom. or maybe just go where i'm sitting as a kind of fuck you to tiger airways. all i can say is thank fuck i am not catching the 8pm flight as i was previously thinking of. i'd end up getting home at the fucking crack of dawn next day. meh. no thanks!!! have fun guys... see you soon!

they do! nothing suss. i've tried washing my hands several times and even after a trip to the pool they still smell. what is with that? it sounds like a Seinfeld episode.

so, today i went on my trek through the national park. it was lovely. i wont go on and on about it, but i can share a couple of cliche pictures of the beautiful scenery.

all in all a lovely day at the beach. possibly one of the best walks i can ask for. so many great views. it's moments like that where you can be truly grateful for having legs.

having myself a nice little time in Noosa and since the weather hasnt been the greatest, i have been able to catch up on some quality Nip/Tuck Season 4! oh and it is delicious. except for mother turning around every 3 seconds when there is a sex scene or someone says pussy or fuck. without my noticing, she's turned into an OLD PERSON. but, mind you... when there is a sex scene, she will watch the whole thing. nutter. it's actually the reason why i put off watching "the last mistress" with her. it's french. it's a period drama. and it has high level sex scenes. yeh... no thanks!

so.. i went to the bakery that i mentioned in an earlier post. i was sooo excited. i counted all my pennies. and asked the lady very nicely. and then i took a bite. ewww... it was possibly one of the greatest food disappointments of the year. and i've eaten a lot of food. anyone that knows me well enough knows i will eat anything. but the cream cheese filling of my banana, pecan and walnut cake tasted like soap. i stood there, in the reject shop now, clucking my tongue, much like walter matthau in this scene...

oh it was horrible. i had to go back. i explained my situation to the nice old white lady... expressing how upset i was. i also explained that p.s- i am a fatso whale and that i do eat LOTS of food and never complain. anyways, she gave me my money back. but i intend to go back once more. and try my luck at another batch. come on, it's the least i can do.. i haven't had a slice in 3 years!

after the kerfuffle of some dodgy cake, it was time for mother and i to head off to the local salvation army. i searched around for some bargains... but, none i could really justify. i did find a hillary duff t-shirt in the menswear aisle... this was somewhat confusing... not me, but i did wonder who the homo staff member working there was that decided it belonged in that aisle. meh. i kept searching... looking... looking... CDS! yes, cool... and i swear to allah that the majority of the titles there were in fact singles from my childhood. we had "honey to the bee", "5,6,7,8", "backstreets back" and this all time classic....

oh the 90's.... so much to answer for. it's like a beautiful nightmare that you wish could stay with you forever. and then... i came across this $1 BARGAIN...

the BABE soundtrack. not only does it have all the instrumental/inspirational music from the gallant trotter ... but sound bites. from the film!!! finally, i can listen to this... on my iPod!

omg... it could even be my new ringtone??? thoughts. please. now.

the simple life/at the movies

mmm totally not the nicole richie/paris hilton combo you'd imagine. this series is starring me and my mother. day 3 of being in noosa and we have hit up all the supermarkets...

there is nothing to do here. but, i guess that's what holidays are for yeh? hmmm well, we hit up the video store... mum actually hid outside fearing she had late fees. it was ridiculous. i went up to the counter to find out, thinking with her level of paranoia, there must be maybe 50-100 clams of late fees. how much?

from 2003. good lord. anyways, after hanging around the video store and grabbing some movies, i left with the following films.

julie and julia, wake in fright, in the electric mist, the reader, an old mistress, vicky cristina barcelona and every little step.

so far the pick of the bunch was wake in fright. this is a 1971 australian film that has been forgotten for several decades. it aired once on commercial TV in 1984-ish and then was pretty much shunned for its "disturbing" and "inaccurate" depiction of australians.

it's amazing how well this film looks on DVD and if i had a chance to see it on blu-ray i would highly suggest it. the film is about an english school teacher, all proper and nice who basically descends into the hellish australian outback and the harsh, violent and beer thirsty ways of mate-ship.

highly recommended for fans of australian cinema... but vegetarians, be warned. there is a WHOLE lot of kangaroo killing in this film. i was actually shocked they got away with so much!

HELLO!!!

i'm back. but who knows for how long. anyways, at the moment i am coming to you live from the Noosa Shire public library where i am on holidays, stealing the free wifi and trying to re-connect with all you die hard fans of this blog.

i have no idea where to start. well, perhaps right now. as i mentioned, i am currently in noosa, my home town. my childhood memories. i flew in from melbourne at about midday of the 150th anniversary of the day where stupid white men dress in suits, get smashed, stare at fake tanned women and gamble and bet on the cruelty of racing the horse around a 3.2 km track. phew. glad i got that off my chest. horses, they are so amazing. and we just... hmmm that's another discussion.

the flight down was pretty pleasant, i had been warned about flying with tiger airways, a budget airline that has a pretty consistent history of beinf horrible. i arrived at the terminal thanks to jesse, and was alarmed at the amount of people crammed into this tiny bunker... about to board what i thought would be a tin can. not only did i get a window seat... i had the entire row to myself and it turned out that a former work colleague had decided she'd had enough of selling cameras at JBHIFI and was now a hostess! free muffin and water thank you! i wanted some assorted nuts, but, you can't always get nuts when you want them.

flash back about 72 hours earlier and i was in mad panic about finding a replacement housemate. it had been about 6 weeks since jesse had flown the nest and decided to live in the ultimate vegan/vegetarian household with a few other people, one of which was his GF. im not gonna lie, i was pretty upset, but kinda had the feeling that he would eventually move out... because he was so so smitten with his lady love. anyways... the time came when ben had to start looking for a housemate and god... if any of you know where i live, and the size of the apartment, you'd say it's cosy. it's not like, a box. but it is definitely and area that you'd want to be comfortable with the person you've chosen.

so, the advertisement when up on gum nut or gumtree and i was like, cool. i have a chance to show the world that i am a cool individual with lots to offer, and i'll find my ideal housemate. someone trendy and social, quiet and private, loved cinema and pop culture, someone that could cook and finally, someone with a skill that could come in handy. hairdresser, carpenter, fashion designer. the criteria wasn't outrageous, but perhaps my expectations were. i was like, sweet... got myself a cool ad, a bit quirky, but people like that right? WRONG.

140 people had looked at my ad. and 138 of them decided it was ... obviously not for them. ouch. mega ouch. by this stage, jesse had already paid for another months rent and time was getting tight for me to find my dream housemate. fast forward almost 4 weeks later and it was a sunday. at work. i now am at the bourke st store, which is actually a lot of fun. after my year stint at south wharf, and several key "personality" figures leaving the store, i thought it was about time to step up to the plate... and go to "like, the busiest store in the world" or so i had been told. so, sunday. it was the afternoon and i was doing my usual business. after what i thought had to be the cunt-iest day on record, in walks this tall man wearing a suit carrying a nice leather bag and umbrella.

at first, i checked out the umbrella. it was not to large, not to small. it wasnt like those fucking business men who think it's ok to bring a giant beach umbrella and walk the street thinking that they need 2 metres of coverage from the elements. it was just the right size. cool. he started heading to the BBC section. cooler. he started picking up DR WHO dvds.

like a heat seeking mother fucking missile, i tried my shyest to approach this new man of my dreams. after hanging around like a bad smell, i had given up. he had his iPod in and you know that is basically "don't bother me.. i don't want to deal with your shit" i should know, i do it all the time. i started to sulk off, much like george michael in arrested development... but, in the corner of my eye... he came running up after me! ok, i started to freak. anyways, after a rather long conversation where i was rambling about how it's cheaper to buy DVDS online from amazon.co.uk and trying to explain who sooty was... it was time for him to leave. he made his purchase and walked out of my life for good.

"hey ben, you know that guy with the blonde hair..."

"yesssss..."

"well, he said you were really, really..."

(at the stage i thought... OMG OMG he loves me too...)

"helpful"

"ooh... well, um, yeh... helpful is good right?"

WOW. OK. not totally what i was after... but a good start. so, as i am leaving work... i switch on my grindr. possibly the creepiest app and the most useful app of all time. if you're not sure, give it a wiki. HE WAS ONLINE. wooooohoooo. after chatting to him for aaaages... i discovered not only is he a DR WHO fan... but he likes BATTLESTAR GALACTICA. he's a virgo. from NZ. has 4 mutual friends with jesse's girlfriend te ao marama... wow. it was all too good to be true. long story short, monday night, the night before i left to go away for 2 weeks. i said, sure. you can move in. i gave him my keys. and sent him on his way. i just hope that when i get back that my apartment is stripped bare and all he has left me was my LOST figurines. i can't see anyone else wanting them.

so, yes, flash forward 24 hours from that moment, i am enjoying my first "home cooked" meal with mother in the apartment she has had for about 10 years now. i think i have spoken about this before... but there's always such a sense of ... sadness about returning home. actually, i am not sure if sadness is the right word, but ... it just takes me back to all those years ago. we went to the local shopping centre, and there was the same cleaner that was there when i was 14 years old. the bakery still makes the same cake i used to BEG my parents to buy me. now, i can walk in and i don't have to ask mum or dad for the $3.90 ... small things like that. they fill me with ... i guess it's something i can't quite describe.

this is my second day back in Noosa, and i am already feeling restless. no trains. no trams. no sky-scrappers. no noise. just me. the sun. the pool. until, mum comes stomping up to me whilst i am trying to get a tan.

"ben, i need to clean your room. i have that guy coming around to have a look..."

"ok, well.. just put everything in a corner...."

she starts to walk off...

"oh, but, i wouldn't touch those socks. maybe use a glove or a bag or something"

... now, that's something that actually never happened 10 years ago. i guess there are some things that can happen for the first time in a place that is filled with experiences.

6) A Serious Man

after winning an academy award and making universal a solid all star comedy, the coen brothers decided to make this film- a low key, personal story apparently about their upbringing.. anyways, this film was so depressingly funny and poetic and posed some really solid questions about faith and ... well, basically... WHY???

beautifully photographed by their regular collaborator roger deakins, this film is an endearing and at times testing film that demands (i believe) multiple viewings! the acting is all top class by a bunch of relative unknowns but you know you're in capable hands with the coens! and talk about an ending!! phew!

7) District 9

based on the short film - "alive in joburg" - district 9 is the first feature film from director neil blomkamp! made on a budget for next to nothing, this film looks amazing! set amongst the slums of south africa when aliens have landed on earth and become stranded, therefore becoming refugees!

this movie was such a ride and it started off with a slightly unlikable main character but by the end of the film i was crying over an alien!!! it was ridiculous! and the soundtrack is tops too! i love the way the african vocals combine with frenetic bourne ultimatum-esque action music!! twists and turns and turbulent triumphs, district 9 is so, so so much fun!!!

ok, i cannot finish this list at the moment and may have to post a part 3! i am seriously struggling to make 10 films... looking at the list of films that have been released this year it is going to be tough!!!

yes, it's that time of the year when losers/geeks/fanboys all around the world take time out from waiting in line for avatar or downloading bootleg copies of sherlock holmes to write a top ten films of the year! so, without any further adieu ... let's count down (in no particular order) ben's top films from 2009!!!

1) UP

pixar delivered yet another amazing film with the tale of carl fredrickson and his little asian boy scout companion - russell! the only movie i have ever seen that was able to combine talking dogs with a miscarriage montage! had me crying within the first 10 minutes and pretty much every half hour after that!

incredible animation and a storyline that is tight as a tin drum made up not just a kids movie, instead, a beautiful nod to the ups and downs of life and the experiences we have and the people we become when life perhaps doesn't go the way we planned. there is seriously something for everyone in this film!!!

2) Let The Right One In

this swedish little vampire flick but twilight to shame! but hardly anyone saw it! from it's opening frame i could tell what i was about to watch would be something truly beautiful and haunting! oscar, a 7 yr old boy who is bullied at school meets eli - a new girl in town - who seems to display some strange characteristics! SHE'S A VAMPIRE!!!!

but this story deals with the two falling in love amongst a town terrorised by strange killings and demon cats! the score to this movie by Johan Söderqvist is so moving and sad it gives me chills everytime i listen to it! the two leads are also amazing and their talent is totally on display. i only hope that the american remake from the director of cloverfield turns out to be alright, or at least brings attention to one of the most original takes on the vampire genre in a very very long time!

3) Inglourious Basterds

oh what a movie!!! a 3 hour epic about a plot to kill hitler? yes please!!! quentin delivers his tribute to cinema with this fine film that is about as full of rich dialogue as bruce bogtrotters cake was filled with chocolate! i was not expecting this film to be mostly in subtitles and i was not expecting to see an incredible performance from Christoph Waltz ! the man was unstoppable!

this movie was so much fun and the attention to detail was phenomenal! i can admit the film was a little indulgent but who cares! the finale is soooooo much fun i remember cracking up in laughter when "the shit hits the fan" !!!

4) Avatar

not by any means a well scripted story, the first flaw about this film that some of the dialogue and scenarios are absolutely horrendous.. but i was able to look past this!!! this film is the very reason you go to the movies! what an experience! i haven't seen this film in IMAX 3D but i cannot wait! james cameron created cinema history with this film and i was so happy to sit there for 3 hours! it could've been 30 minutes longer and i wouldn't have cared one bit!!

the technology of this film was so breathtaking i seriously think my jaw was on the floor the whole time! arghhh i don't know how to keep raving about this film.... it truly is unbelievable!

5) The Wrestler

i nearly forgot this film was released in 2009 (jan 15th to be precise) !!! the first heart breaking film of 2009 and a magnificent start to the year! darren aronofsky brought out a truly incredible performance from mickey rourke and in true fashion- made an ultra violent yet very humane story about a wrestler trying to fit into his life and reconnect with his daughter!

a beautiful film with some great 80's rock!!!

hello dearest readers, how are we all going? well, it seems apparent now that everyone has completely abandoned their blogs as there hasn't been much movement around these here parts for weeks now... or in some cases, months!

i thought maybe the fact that everyone moved further away would make us update the blogs more and keep everyone in touch with what we were all up to! but yeh, doesnt look like it.

well, a little less than 6 weeks until carol goes overseas to europe and already slightly maybe starting to panic. who's going to eat asian food with me in the city, and who am i going to go to the movies with like 3 times a week?

hmmm so much going on.. but yes, the title of this blog post is the what i am here to talk about and if you've been following me on facebook you've probably seen that i had another yes, another audition for australia's favourite game show with everyones favourite drunk host, andrew okeefe!

so attended the audition with a friend of mine, and filled out the usual questions about what you'd do with the money and blah blah and your biggest fears and shit like that! it was about an hour of my life i'll never get back, but fingers crossed that i'll get chosen and win some money. because if you've been having to listen to me complain about the fact that i lent a certain individual money and havent gotten anything back, you'll certainly agree that i need some extra dollars!

after the audition, carol and i headed to nova where we got caught in the freak freakin' rain storm that nearly carried me into the sewers with its severity. no good. anyways, we arrive to see "last ride" the new australian drama with hugo weaving. i had some free tickets and had to use them up, so we rushed into the cinema to discover it pretty much empty except for the cliche oldies and gays... there were a couple of asians in there that i wasnt expecting...

but, 2 hours later!! fuck's sake! yeh, sure it was well acted and semi-beautifully shot, but fucking hell. do we need another depressing aussie drama dealing with father son relations?

omg... i had to get onto my high horse! but seriously.. why cant we make a good romantic comedy or an action movie or a musical or anything else!!!

where are the days of priscilla?? fucking hell, there's an odd movie... a bunch of queers on a bus to central australia! and it was amazing! hmmm i was so enraged and out of my mind that i actually gave up my seat to a senior citizen!

something was definately wrong. anyways, that is all.

p.s - studio execs and producers please get some balls and take some risks!!!!

it seems the powers that be are trying to bring the man down. and than man is me.

i head into work for what should be another day another dollar and the moment a step into the store i hear over the loud speaker.. "ben to the managers desk.." my immediate thought was.. ohhh maybe my mac has arrived.. and i was wrong! once again it seems my reviews for movies have gotten me into trouble!

"this anti-abortion film has its message cleverly hidden beneath the brilliant animation and hilarious jokes about an elephant with a mission" 4 1/2 stars

now i thought this was a positive review, and with the trouble i got into last time about bad-mouthing two and a half men, surely this was a glowing review about a product i liked!

shit no... this was SO unacceptable and totally inappropriate for work! seriously? have a fucking laugh.. i guess putting in the kids section was a bit risky, but i could've just moved it to the a-z wall where all the other dvds are!

then came my review for crash- the 2007 film that beat brokeback mountain and won the oscar.

"this oscar winner delivers drama in tonnes as its all star cast delivers some racially profiling cliches and great performances"

anyways... basically i had to go around the store and pick up any other reviews that might be considered "risky" or whatever! so, i took a quick trip around the store and took down any reviews that some loser might take offense to. it turns out that there were quite a few, maybe 20 or so that were deemed NSFW.

i'm on the floor putting out stock and my software manager approaches me and asks to talk. oh, here we go.. he pulls out a review; twilight

"any young girl or gay guys fantasy, twilight might not have the best story but it does have a hot leading man that will have you glued to your seats." 3 1/2 stars

fucking hell! i cant write anything... i'm being censored at work and it's fucking pathetic.

and what shits me the most is that i was warned that next time it would be a written warning and there are people at work who do shit all and treat other staff members like shit and just fly under the fucking radar!

where is the justice? so apparently i cannot have any sexual references or jokes or anything remotely funny in these reviews! grrr it gets me so angry that in this day and age, and in a store like blah blah hi-fi i am being refused my right to express my opinions and thoughts?

the funny this is, that when i was taking some of my reviews down, a customer actually asked me why i was doing it. i told her why and she expressed her views on how pathetic and sad it was that i had to remove my reviews.

meeting carol after work we decided to get some dinner in the city that was NOT asian... yes, it was a difficult mission and we gave up after about 2 minutes of trying!

we ended up at a new asian restaurant that was on la trobe st, above the hobby shop. we walked up the stairs to reveal a massive maroon room packed with asians of all levels of coolness. and carol was the one of 2 white people inside...

anyways the waitress hands us the menus and it wasnt soon after that we learnt that all the pictures on the front door that lured us in were nowhere to be seen!

so we quickly chose something off the menu to keep our stomachs at peace!

we ordered chicken and peanut with some black sauce and a cold dish of garlic cucumbers!

what a mistake! mmm it was very average, i mean, im sure it was good food but we weren't feeling it! in the words of larry david...

waaaaay too saucy! so we quickly finished our waters and beers which were the only thing worthy of completing and got outta there... not before paying a crazy price tag and digging into our bags and pockets to only just cover the cost of the meal...

cut to: hungry jacks to get a whopper meal to make us feel better! fatty fat fat!

what i will say is that i should've known better than to get the m&m storm! it was a horrible evening that not even hungry jacks could fix up! 2 and a half stars!

well... they are at it again and this time in a 10 minute tribute to the king of pop.

with only 10 hrs of rehearsal time, 1500 inmates got together and managed to create this amazing video..

how fucking amazing is this? anyways, i looked into things a little further and it turns out that there are heaps of these little performances that would make kim-jong jealous as all hell!

meh, you know it's a shit world when the death of a fucking POP god is the thing that inspires you to wrote on your blog for when it's been so fucking long since you've done a post.

i dont even know where to begin or what to say, because, i have tried writing this post so many times before but have found it really hard to start or find interesting things to talk about. so much has happened... and then again, so much isn't worth talking about.

anyways, today i got the sms from li-kim (who always seems to be the first person to find out) and quickly turned on the tv... i yelled over to mum (who is currently in melbourne- more on that later) and said MICHAEL JACKSON IS DEAD... maybe! she lept out of her semi state of sleep and we watched the tv... it was so weird and strange... and i dunno, it's not that important or interesting hearing me talking about it but i have to say something i guess to someone who was such a MASSIVE part of everyone's lives!

despite his personal life and all that crazy shit we read, there is no denying he was a true musical legend... and although i dont really believe in god, he was basically a musical god... and inspired and gave so much to people...

so i arrived to work today at about 1pm, and i thought maybe we'd be playing some of his albums and stuff, but i didnt expect the amount of people asking for his stuff to be soooo HUGE! we had 1 woman bursting into tears and another guy saying how he was glad he was dead and that he'll rot in hell etc... and within a couple of hours we'd sold out of EVERYTHING! and i think it was the same with most JB stores as well... it was full the fuck on. but, what a strange emotional thing to get over, the last great muscial icon!

and farah fucking fawcett... fucks sake. her battle with cancer was so fucking public and out there... that got me a little too... so much going on.

but looking back at the past month or whatever long it's been... i'm trying to think of all the stuff that's happened.

maybe i'll start with whats going on at the moment... mother hubbard has decided on her 58th birthday, she'd come down to melbourne and spend some time with her 3 children... (sarah chu had also booked to come down) so last night after work, i managed to get into the city and check out where mum was staying...

now, on my way there i google map the place to find out where it is and i come across some reviews for it... basically people rating it 1 star and saying it was a horrible experience and blah blah how they didnt get their deposit money back.. whatever, i wasnt suprised that the woman that gave birth to me had decided to stay in a cheapy hotel... but, when i arrived i was actually suprised that the place wasnt a total dump, and for the price that she was paying, it was pretty alright... free hot breakfast in the morning was the most promising aspect in my opinion.

that night at work i saw some friends of amber button (a girl from work, who's real name is not actually button, it's because she calls me benjamin button so i call her it back) anyways, these young punks come and say hello and mention that they might be going out in the city... and since i was in the city i thought i might see where they were or what they were doing...

cut to: your old pal hobbling up the streets (due to extreme over exercise due to my new diet-more on that later) to the club... now, i had heard of billboard, but never been.. and probably because it seems that when you go there, you are meant to be underage or just turned 18! no-one told me this!!! so i enter the club and see all the hotties and P.O.W's in the joint and for some strange reason i just started to smile!

it had been so long since i'd been to a club, and despite all the gross yucky hetro's inside, the music was so loud and full on that i couldnt not enjoy myself. so, i spent the next few hours dancing my little legs off to music that i had never heard before and that was so loud i had to text msg any conversation i wanted to have... so, it hit about 2.30-ish AM and i thought i was probably time to call it a night.

walked katie to hungry jacks and she got some chips... (and i showed my AMAZING will power and got nothing) then she got in a taxi and i just walked 10 mins to my hotel room! omg... living in the city has never been more appealing... although... "inner city pressure" did keep coming into mind!

in other news the plasma finally arrived! it probably has been in the house for about a month! and it's amazing! although, and this is a BIG BIG set back... the dvd player/blu ray recorder doesnt play DIVX!!!! and the tv doesnt have a USB input! anyways, here i am bitching and complaining... but yeh, because they took so long to actually deliver the TV, they had no choice but to upgrade me to the next model up because the other one had actually run out of stock!

so it was the day of stocktake at work, the 1 day where i couldnt take it off because my jerk of a manager would be all GRR GRR and make me cry ... (more on that probably never, although he didnt make me cry... more i cried while talking to him) and yeh, lucky gen was here and also jesse who offered to come over before he went to university.

the weekend before, phoebe, carl (phoebe's BF), gen and i all went to IKEA in search of swedish meatballs and some dvd shelves for the 15 plus boxes i had piled up in our temporary lounge room. to cut a long trip short, i picked up 2 dvd shelves, ran into my sister in the food court where i busted her getting lunch and found a slightly "damaged" entertainment unit that someone had returned.. the beauty of that was that it had already been assembled and it was about $80 cheaper than the brand new one! soooo grateful to all the kids and their cars for managing to get that back home! pretty much set that up straight away and within days we were watching everything on amazing plasma goodness!

i've also become pretty addicted to amazon.co.uk as i've discovered that australia and europe are the same region or zone for blu ray movies. sometimes it works out being cheaper online than buying them at work with my discount! who would've thought! so, i've already done some double dipping, but im very very keen not keep it up! as amazing as blu ray is, unless it's something incredible that i must have, im not going to! but, the collection is slowly buidling up, hopefully for anyone that cares or is interested, i might put some pictures up!

continuing on my "chu-luck" (as carol calls it, because apparently all the chuahs have good luck, this is proven by li-kim winning a phone a week via the age newspaper) i entered a competition on my mobile to win tickets to a concert at rod laver arena. now, the woman rings up and says i have scored a double pass to the presets! and i was like, AWESOME... i was already thinking of all the fabulous and amazing people that were going.. until i told bessie and she informed me that they were not playing at rod laver and definately not playing on the 26th! fuck! i immediately thought what if i misheard and i had won tickets to the priests! the muscial trio of catholic tenors not the 2 hot cool gay guys with electro funk!

so the day comes, and i collect my tickets from the post office... i open the parcel and ta daaah!

omg, it just got better... or worse.. depending who you ask... but it went from like, a gay rating of like 17 to like 88.32930230278!!!

incredible... fast forward to the concert, carol and i are sitting amongst the strangest collection of people... it was pretty amazing.. we had some really good seats and jesse let me borrow his camera which had an incredible zoom so it felt like we were really close! and this girl behind us was such a fan of both the gags and the dolls, she was screaming every word of every song... and when they went off the stage, she'd bust out with something random like...

"I FUCKING LOVE YOU GAGA! YOU'RE A MOTHER FUCKER... FUUUUCK.. OMG!!!"

priceless... needless to say i got a shitload of photos and about 5 minutes into lady gaga i had already filled the 4GB memory card with video of the concert.. i cant be bothered putting up photos from the event, but i will at some stage when i get my new computer and this old hunk'o'chunk doesnt crash every second. the mere fact that i've managed to write a post this long is truly a miracle!

you might have heard that apple has launched their new macbook range and guess which nerd/apple obsessive has finally bitten the bullet and ordered one??? MEEE! i'm so excited to get one, and join the club of fellow mac users, i know every time i see likim and sarah, part of me is a little excited to see sarah's mac. but, yeh, jesse and i went into work and got the old 20 months interest free and presto. i'm approved for more money than i can poke an iPod at. also picked up final cut HD express so now i really have no fucking excuse for not being able to be creative!

i kinda got the mac also to keep me occupied for when carol goes on her own little euro-trip in september... so fingers crossed it shall fill the void of human love and companionship she provides!

which leads me to my segue...

carol has moved out of 4 henry st, which concludes that chapter of our lives! it's pretty cool that we all lived there at some stage and had some great memories and not so great memories... $100 a week for a room the size of my new backyard and city views? brilliant.. but, meh... the place is falling apart and is surely very slowly sinking into the ground thanks to next doors renovations... (YES, THEY ARE STILL GOING)

li-kim is also in the process of moving out too... man i'm going to miss the local bakery, fish'n'chips shop, fruit shop, top shop, the bottom shop... the chicken shop... kensington pizza... but certainly not the smelly pub! omg that place is shiiiiit!

hmmmm it's getting kinda late now, i might give it a rest... hopefully this is enough of an update to keep you all happy... and hopefully it wont be too long between posts in the future..

the saga continues.

apparently they tried to deliver the goods when i wasn't home. why they didn't tell me is beyond me. so it's been about 6 weeks since i received the phone call saying i'd won this competition way back in december.

what i'm trying to figure out is if i won this thing way back then, shouldn't the goods be sitting in some sort of prize cupboard ready to ship out to me? so i'm at work and i noticed a missed call from panasonic... i called the number and organised for the goods to be delivered on monday. unfortunately, she was unable to give me a delivery time, but i figured, i'm happy to wait a whole day to finally get the plasma and blu-ray recorder!

finally the TNT delivery truck pulls up. gen and i scream in excitement!! THE PLASMA! THE PLASMA!!!

the guy pulls up the roller door and brings out a small box. my face just goes blank. i waited the whole day for just the recorder? what's the freakin point. now i have blu-ray discs and a player, but no tv that will support them!! sooo DUM!

ok, well, i figure that i don't actually have a table to put the TV on, so i guess it'll give me more time to look. i also need to get another antenna point in the lounge room. i give jim's antenna's a ring. the guy comes out the next morning.

monday morning and jimmy pulls up and has a look.

"oh no, we've already got a problem!"

apparently the antenna is too old and is running ribbon cable through the wall. what i need is coaxial cable! he quotes me $400 for a new antenna, installation and 2 aerial points in the house! fucking pricey. and all this for me to watch HD TV on my new plasma! this shit doesnt end.

so jimmy rings up the real estate asking to speak to the property manager asking them to pay half of the fee because it's a basic service and eventually analogue signal will be switched off.

this is when i start to get a bit... hmmm... "this guy's a peice of work"

so he leaves and i decide to call another man to get a quote. then this guy says it's only gonna cost $190... whatever!!! the guy says he'll come out in a couple of hours and have a look and also give me a written quote that i can hand to the real estate.

2 hours later he rings up and says he isn't coming!!! ARGHHH!!!!

ok, i get over that hurdle and ring up panasonic and am informed that they have no more stock of the plasma that i was expecting and that they wont be getting anymore in until the end of the month. panasonic has no clue about my prize and the woman at disney or whoever looks after the prize isn't answering my emails!!!

will i ever see this TV??? and when will i get my K-RUDD900??

hi again everyone,

hope you're all well. currently sitting in my room after coming back from alice st residents where i just spent the last hour or so carrying around a trolley full of rubbish around the streets of coburg in an attempt to clear the yard of all the prom garbage!

it was full on. we had 1 torch to navigate the streets and 1 camera to record the events. unfortunately i only have my mobile phone photo of 1 of 3 loads we had to secretly stuff into other peoples bins..

cars, trucks, cats and even a freakin helicopter had us spooked... but it wasn't until the very end where it all hit the fan! after many successful dumps, we had hit GOLD. an empty bin! now, the front light of this house was on.. so i quickly grabbed the bin and bolted down the street. heath quickly followed and started dumping all the recycling..

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"

omg.. we had been sprung. for disposing rubbish. it's so ridiculously stupid.. all we are doing is throwing out rubbish on bin night, at 12.30am.. but the fact that this guy had walked down the street to find his bin... i thought we were in trouble!

i turned around to speak to the man, only to see the other 4 people we had been doing this task with piss bolting up the road with torch in hand. so here heath and i are, standing under a street lamp.. with a total stranger who's in his robe and slippies.

oh.. anyways... he was fine with it... but the whole conversation was stupid.

"oh, just emptying some rubbish into your bin..."

"oh, alright then. well, can i have it back."

"yeh, we just didn't want to wake anyone"

first of all, happy birthday to carol.

carol turned 20 finally although everyone seems to always think she is alot older than she actually is. we spent the day walking around the city, deciding on what do to, and after some food (i think we had don don) we finally checked out that exhibition at ACMI where they have some sets and shit from films. it was pretty interesting to see all the sketches and models of stuff like the shining, and also to see how they built the whole airport in the terminal. it finishes soon, i'd recommend you check it out! oh, and i got to stand in the set for australia!!!

i can't really remember what else we did that day... but afterwards we did whatever it was that we did, we went home and had a nap so carol could go out and party to celebrate her birthday. keeping in mind that heath had his 30th the next night, neither of us were going to be having a big one, so a select few headed down to white rabbit bar in kensington where we had some drinks and talked battlestar galactica (well, the nerds did anyways)

the next morning (sat) we headed down to the docklands for yum cha! it's a new restaurant and the uncle had taken li-kim and i about 2 weeks ago so i wanted to show carol how nice it was and also so she could see more asian babies than she could poke a chop-stick at.

anyways, it was sooo good and we only ended up spending about 25 bucks each and we were all full. mmm! after that we headed back home where i had to make a playlist for the party/prom. having such short notice after the DJ was no longer an option... i basically chucked together about 300 songs from my iTunes library and hoped for the best. i had all the hits on there such as this number...

i cannot believe how HOT this clip is. it is so over the top and sexual it basically is porn!

anyways, the party was a massive hit, people came in some amazing costumes and yours truly looked like an asian car dealer/wedding singer ... it was so much fun. i can't be arsed putting up all the photos from the night, go on my facebook or something and find them. too many highlights to report, they were all good... tom gant managed to do a nudie run, i was feeding people slusho wine and ice from a blender, there was karaoke.. it was all happening!

left prom at about 3am, then had to get up for work at 8am. i was actually feeling pretty good because the whole time i was drinking margareta's... so there was plenty of ice consumed!

oh well, i guess it's all over until there is another 30th... mmmm who's could it be???

wow... where to begin!

it's been kinda hectic at the moment. i've been kicked out of coburg... and now back at kensington and finding it really hard to keep up the blog for whoever reads it! but, i'll try my best.

not much has been going on apart from all the moving, i managed to get my friend from work to help me move most of the smaller objects, and then i basically had to get some big manly men men to come and do the rest. i was a little worried that a) i had to make a phone call and b) deal with men and have them move all my shit!

but it was quite easy! lucky jesse was there with me, because i was absolutely freaking out thinking about if i had to shake hands, offer them a drink, offer some help and the list goes on and on!

needless to say the whole thing was pretty harmless and i was freaking out for no real reason. it was all over within an hour or less and then the crazy task of setting up my room and some parts of the house began.

in other news i was pretty lucky that i didnt have to really worry about loredo and the show... i was really happy to see him get a lyrical piece, and being paired up with talia, who is one of the strongest girls in the comp was exciting.

i think that finally australia will see what this guy is capable of because previously i felt he was being shoved in the background and not really being presented in the best possible way, unlike say, charlie!

work has been pretty average, not much going on there. i'm still not on speaking terms with another staff member and im just waiting for that to become an issue! not really sure what i want to do with myself, i'd love to travel like carol, i'm pretty jealous and at the same time, super proud of her as she's managed to save up all this time and plan this massive journey all on her own. i want a new job, something that pays better than JB does, but nothing that is going to be draining my soul. i had also planned to apply for PROJECT NEXT, that new thing that andrew denton's production company was doing, but with all the shit going on lately, the application had pretty much slipped by... meh!

tv has been keeping me company quite a bit lately, im LOVING this new season of 24. i know no-one watches... but it has been a pretty good season this year, all the classic elements are there, and this time you can tell that the year they had during the writers strike to prep it have made it to the screen. LOST is also amazing. carol and i watch it as a regular thing, although, she tends to fall asleep during it and then i end up watching it a 2nd time... oooh... so many new twists and stuff, it's so great. and SKINS as well, the new season with all the new kids! at first i really struggled with them all, but there have been some really good storylines and the one with the 2 girls in love has been pretty touching. it's weird you never really see 2 teenage girls falling in love...

speaking of tv, no real sign that my fucking prize will ever show up, i only just heard that i should be recieving my blu-ray dvds in the mail this week. apparently they were out of stock of the blu-ray recorder or something, and now i'm just waiting for panasonic to call me and arrange a delivery date! i don't know why im in such a hurry, i dont even have a table to put it on yet. but i cannot wait to start watching stuff on it. AUSTRALIA- in HD!!!

hey everyone,

thought i should try and write a fairly decent post and let you know what is going on in my life lately. i have no idea where to begin or how personal i should be... meh. fuck it

anyways... still looking for a house.. havent had any luck with anything yet.. so many things have been kinda stopping me from getting anywhere... i guess myself..

so, was meant to be looking for a house with leila and another one of her friends for the ultimate asian palace and then that fell through... and then i was going to team up with gen and pheobe for a 3 bedroom place... and then leila wanted back in.. and then there was going to be the 4 of us all pairing up together to snag a place in brunswick that was amazing! it was soo funky and large and had a bungalow and a kitchen-ette!

too good to be true... i thought we were totally a shoe in for that one and applied straight away only to have our dreams crushed at the last moment. and then leila tells me that she's out and now we are back to 3 bedroom places..

i guess it makes it easier for finding a place... but i really am kinda getting over living out of suitcases and boxes of toiletries. and im really finding it hard to leave kensington. im glad carol is still there and we are still friends and close... i am going to find it quite difficult finding a house that was as spacious and large as that.

meanwhile, back at henry st- carol has found 2 new housemates; harley (a workmate from borders) and jake (a really old friend from school) even though half of my shit (mainly dvds) are blocking most of the lounge, she has a really cool set up and jake has a large tv and a nintendo Wii with as many pirated games you can poke a stick at. it's amazing! would be lying if i said i was a little jealous!

so at the moment, just working and doing all that usual shit, work has been pretty average... although, had a really fun 30th birthday party... (will have to put some photos up when i get a chance) but i got a chance to re-use my dinosaur costume from last years halloween theme party!

it was the first "aussie bbq" i'd been to in a very long time and the food was amazing! it wasn't a long or very rowdy night, but it was so good to be around a family kinda environment and seeing kids getting all dressed up and having fun. i dont know why it meant so much to me really... maybe it was all the BBQ meat and salads and dessert! incredible.

other than that, work has been as i said, average. under staffed and under paid. and it doesnt help that some of my work relations have become a little ... hmm ... shithouse.. im thinking i might transfer or perhaps get a new job after i move. depending on when and where i guess. i'd like a change... and JB is pretty cruisy... but i should be focusing on my application for "project next" or something else media-ish.

mmm what else to talk about... oh, the oscars were on and hosted by the drover himself; hugh jackman! i was so impressed with how intimate and fun they were... bessie, heath, sarah and i all took the day off work to watch the live telecast and get drunk and have some hot-dogs... it was so much fun. the highlights of the night included the opening song and dance and also the huge one in the middle directed by baz lurhmann. oh, and i cannot forget the speech my the screenwriter of milk that really brought the house down...

i was creaming my jeans as zac efron pranced around the stage.. anyways... half way through the show i had a call from a number that looked like it was from sydney... i didnt answer it (it's pretty much how i live my life because im always thinking it might be my psycho ex-landlord) ... after the show finished and i was fairly under the influence thanks to several vodka/oranges i get a call from jessie @ work. he tells me that a woman called asking me to call her back as i'd won a competition.

so i call the woman back, and she tells me that i had won a 42 inch plasma and a blu-ray recorder worth about $5300!! i was in shock, i mean, i was so happy with the oscars and then that to top off the day. i couldn't believe it at first, and im still a little sceptical as to whether or not i'll receive it... but it all sounds quite legit! back in november last year i entered a disney competition "in 25 words or less, which disney title would you like to see on blu-ray and why?" i remember writing some bullshit about how ahead of it's time it was and that amazing ballroom scene that used real life elements and combined blah blah blah... and, fast forward to 3 months later!!! holy shit! all i need now is a fucking house to put it in. it's going to be pretty incredible should this thing arrive.... fingers crossed that this isnt a huge practical joke! :)

at the moment im in sydney with loredo, to come and watch him in SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. i am always so happy to see him dance, although watching him in the latest episode i could tell he was a little disappointed. i would love him to get a contemporary routine and work with one of the more "popular" dance choreographers.. i cant help but think that he is getting neglected or something. i have seen this guy bust his ass with some amazing dance routines over the 5 years i have known him and it kills me to see him so down and not in his element.

but, other than that, the show was INCREDIBLE! i took my sister sarah with me to the filming and it was such a great environment. sure, you had to put up with the slightly annoying warm up guy and all the screaming girls.. but being in a room with so many talented people did feel pretty good... i dont know why... i guess it's the inner dancer in me that always gets a little funny watching.

i was pretty impressed with the steadi-cam operator who was running around on the stage with all the dancers. that was cool. but the studio itself was pretty small and it's funny how i always forget that. i have a feeling that i will be in alot of the show on sunday... i got to sit in the 3rd row from the front and i was surrounded with the choreographers.. so every time they cut to one of them... my fat head was in the background! not looking forward to that... although, am curious to see my beautiful sign that i made for loredo in the car... and how it looks on camera!

while loredo has been at rehearsals, i have had the chance to wonder the city and look around. i have no real interest in trying to understand all the stupid buses that are around... so i have my walking boots on and my google maps on my phone and off i go. i managed to see all the highlights... the opera house and the harbour bridge and the new apple store.

it was weird seeing the opera house and bridge.. it was like meeting someone you've known your whole life and then going... "ohh... thats how you look... " and being a little ... like.. "oh, the mystery is over.."

took some good-ish kinda artistic photos of the bridge and opera house and felt like a bit of a tourist... (p.s- i have never seen more people running around the city... it is so weird.. maybe there is a marathon coming up or perhaps they're all getting hot for mardi gra or something) so will have to put them up on the blog too. also visited darling harbour and the chinese friendship gardens. they were quite beautiful and calming. went to the star wars exhibition at the powerhouse museum and stood around a whole bunch of geeks looking at costumes, props and sets from all 6 films.. it was pretty, pretty, pretty cool.

well, this might be it for this post... when i get back to melbourne i'll upload all my pictures or some of them at least.

hope everyone else is well, i havent checked everyones blogs in quite some time so i guess i'll do it now that i have 39 minutes left of my internet cafe time!!!

Ok. Current housing update.

Just found out I have 2 and a half weeks to move out of Coburg! Yikes! Life is tough. Apparenty I dreamt that michelle obama was pregnant.. I could have sworn that was true. I also dreamt that my jb store was doing an in store signing with woody allen.

Man, what is going on in my mind? Worried about having no home? Doesn’t seem that way. Anyways, so the other day I went to a house inspection with a friend to what was going to be our dream house. How mistaken we were.

No oven, no windows in the bedrooms, only one window in the lounge room, the shower was the size of a fridge..

And they were asking about $430 a week for 3 bedrooms… but you were paying for location location location!! Where was it? The city!! Such a great location.. but why no oven? How can you live or cook without one? Man, and there was no laundry space actually… I only just realised that! What the eff?

Competition is tough at the moment, this one house/warehouse loft certainly attracted the hotties. There was about 100 fashion designers/rock stars cramming into this place. If I was desperate, it would/could be best place to meet someone.

Well, actually.. we did. Started talking to this dude who was a trendy east Timorese/morrocan singer. Nothing else is coming out of this comment apart from the fact he was a cool dude and I’m going to hunt down his band and have a listen!

Have another inspection tonight. Let’s hope it goes better than the last one.. otherwise, who has a couch I can sleep on? Or.. I guess I’m off to the readings wall to find some cool new housemates…

What a piece of work

Just in regards to my current landlord at the moment who is really something else. I have probably mentioned it before.. but this guy is just a mean man!

I actually rang the man to talk about my moving in… (keep in mind it’s only temporary) anyways… before the phone call even gets underway, he’s asking me where is the rent, where are my references, the bond… etc etc…

I mean come on! I haven’t even settled my shit and he’s on the blower giving me sarcasm and evil like never before!

Anyways... he had the nerve to come over the other day without telling us (it turned out he did actually tell Bessie but she failed to pass that on to the rest of us) so a knock at the door and I immediately went into hiding mode because of my inability to make chit chat at the door and the fact that I never know who is going to be there!

So, sarah goes to the front door and it begins! Meanwhile, I’m in my underpants in her room hiding behind the door. And I had to stay there for at least 10 mins… and every now and then I hear bits of conversation…

“there are proper procedures for bond money… there is the authority…” blah blah he went on and on about this and that and then was wanting to get access to the shed out the back.

Giving you the quick geographical tour of our house… basically to get to the back… so now I am in the crazy position of having to run out of the room in between him going past the window!!!

Arghhh … so sarah comes in and finds me under her bed… hiding from the window because the door faces the window!!

well..

it has been a long time since i have written anything on here about my actual life that i am semi living so i thought i'd give it a shot to fill whoever reads this thing in and maybe to remind myself of the dum situations i get in...

so... moved to coburg... kinda, half my stuff is in kensington and half in the burg and currently am travelling back and forth between highpoint and both houses...

it has been sooo freakin hot lately and i have not been enjoying the hassle of travelling back all these ways...

currently looking for a new house somewhere else... the criteria is kinda simple... somewhere trendy, cheap-ish, close to public transport etc...

not much to ask for!!

haven't actually looked at any properties, kinda hoping that someone is going to save me and whisk me away to a fantastic loft apartment and shower me with gifts!!!

i have until the end of feb to get out of coburg because there is a new tenant moving in... and, to be honest... i cant live in that house if it is owned by THAT landlord... he is such a piece of work!!! like, you would not believe!!

anyways, please excuse my piss poor attempt at trying to explain my life...

i have more important issues to worry about aka 24 premiere and lost season 5!!!

dark knight

i don't even need to say anything about this film. it was KICK ASS!!!! and IMAX??? what the hell. it was incredible.. i was so excited about this film and i was loving every single second of this film!!!

there will be blood

nearly forgot about this film... it was waaaay back in march or something... but daniel day-lewis is astounding in this modern masterpiece...

australia

yes... baz delivered an over the top sweeping romance... cinematic epic... it was everything i wanted and maybe a little more!!! an amazing little celebration about our lovely country with some important issues thrown in. tears, laughs and some bloody silly cattle and a big bloody ship.

cloverfield

mmm maybe a little controversial for a list... in terms of monster movies... it certainly brought something new to the table. incredible effects and i gotta love a good... really good viral marketing campaign.

happy-go-lucky

sally hawkins delivers one of the years best performances in this fresh and moving film from mike leigh. i cant say too much about this film... but it just a great experience and also possibly the most intense car driving scene i have seen in cinema thanks to a GREAT performance from eddie marsan.

wall e

AMAZING!!! hello??? pixar just went above and beyond with this film. the first 40 mins with no dialogue??? phenomenal sound design and animation makes this not only a fun and fascinating film... but it has more heart than pretty much any other romantic comedy around!!!

danny boyle is certainly a talented man... trainspotting... sunshine... then this. the guy knows how to make a movie!!! great energy and performances from its cast ... and the soundtrack and cinematography certainly captures the vibes and life of mumbai!!! and who doesnt love a closing credits bollywood dance sequence!!!

lust, caution

ang lee delivers a highly sexual and tense spy thriller set in occupied china... (check that) ... the music and cinematography are perfectly suited and the performances are ... GREAT!!! and for a film made in china or anywhere really... it certainly pushes the boundaries for some of the most erotic sex scenes in recent cinema historyeven giving shortbus a run for its money!

step brothers

OK!!! guilty... possibly the most stupidest movie ever!!! i had so much fun with this film and it provided me with the most heartist laughs this year! will ferrell and john c. reilly raise the stakes with this film and make it the most craziest thing and the smartest comedy... ahahah BOATS AND HOES!!! i have to say that forgetting sarah marshall & pineapple express were also hilarious... but this one makes the list for the musical number at the end!!!

the mist

i dont usually like "horror" movies... but frank darabont brings a fresh take on pretty horrible situation. the handheld doco-style shoot of this film totally works and there are some great performances from the ensemble cast. and the ending... well, i picked it... but was pretty sure they werent going to go there.

ok.. so there you have it!!! that's my list... it was tough making the ten and of course there are the few that were sooo close and didnt make it... honourable mentions go to the following..

another year has nearly passed and that means another opp for ben to give up his precious time to volunteer at the AUSTRALIAN FILM INDUSTRY'S night of nights!!! the mother-effing AFI'S!!!!!

this year, they were celebrating the 50th yr of aussie film and the awards and it was also my 4th year of getting drunk and partying with the celebs... (more on that later)

they also changed the venue to the princess theatre... it was alot different from last year... there was no sit down dinner and the after party was moved to my old pal.. the forum theatre!

anyways... basically spent 2 days lifting the fucking heaviest boxes of loreal showbags up flights of stairs and running around the most intricate set of passage ways in the theatre.. (it was actually quite exciting running around backstage learning about all the different corridors etc etc... made me think of making a movie with 1 Steadicam short all about the life back stage... semi russian ark-ish)

got to eat incredible catering food... i even amazed myself by having 3 serves of mains for dinner and then 2 or 3 serves of dessert including sticky-date pudding and fresh fruit salad with like extra thick cream!!! OMFG!!!

after all the faffing about it was time to get serious. plan our trip to the after party!!! yes, ben was going to get shit-faced and hug as many celebs as humanly possible!!!

cool... so all us cool vollies walked down to the forum theatre... carrying about 5 kgs of loreal shit that we snuck out... (the loreal woman caught us taking boxes after having previously stuffed like already $100 bucks of shit into our bags... she told us "ONE BOX ONLY" ... little did she know the previous night at industry awards i took a whole carton home!!!)

we flashed our access passes that got us entry to the foyer... and then snuck into a side room where we left all out shit.. got changed and then headed straight to the bar for as many freeee drinks as possible!!!

walking into the theatre was quite amazing.. i was impressed with it for crowded house, but having seen it full life and buzz in a social scene was also pretty inspiring... all these people that i guess i look up to in 1 room is pretty cool... and the fact i was just brushing past them was funnn!!!

the rest of the night was a blur as i got so shitfaced and LOST MY CAMERA!!!! (i dont want to talk about it... but basically i had photos with every single bastard there and all gone!!!)

so after 22 years of waiting to go to my first real concert, it seemed kinda fitting/nice that it would be crowded house - the band that i grew up listening to with all the songs... knowing most of the words and blah blah blah...

anyways... we shuffled off to the forum theatre, which was totally spectacular... i'd never been there before and it was quite impressive to see all the statues and the roman-esque design of the place..

more importantly.. they were awesome!!! played for nearly 3 hrs ... and they also did a small q&a with the audience that resulted in some random guys from the audience playing with them on stage... quite inspiring!!!

unfortunately i didn't have my camera on me because i wasnt sure what the rules were.. i shoulda not given a shit because it turned out there was some douche with a microphone standing next to li-kim recording the whole effing thing!!!

but.. i must say... for my first real like standing concert... it was an absolute pleasure apart from all the tall fuckers standing in the way of the little people... seriously... you cant help that you're tall but you can help from being a jerk and standing in front of all us midgets!!! ergh!

for days i was looking forward to the "kensington day" event to be held in the holland park. the flyer (which was printed on paper that had bright fireworks all over it) advertised rides, food, stalls, fun, a free movie... etc etc

so.. i rush home from work hoping i havent missed this neighbourhood spectacular of little black kids running around the park flying kites while their parents made me some authentic afrikaan goodness..

MY GOD WAS I WRONG!!!!

it turns out the event was only held inside the fucking swimming pool...

the rides was a slide into the pool...
stalls were offering swimming shit and towels etc...
the free movie was showing on a shitty projector inside the pool
and the food was a sausage sizzle...

and fireworks??? there were none!!! i didnt stay for long... and it wasnt until i checked the flyer for closer inspection... there was no mention of them... but the fact it was printed on paper covered in the motherfuckers made me think there was!!!

after living in kensington for more than 4 yrs or something it was finally time to head down to the corner cafe and have one of these famous effing breakfast in a pan things...

oh my god...

it was amazing!!! everything... and i mean everything chucked into a pan and then topped with so much cheese!!!

argghhh... HEAVEN!

most of the time i complain how they claim to be a big brekkie but it is just an entree... this thing... 4 bits of bread... FOUR! i was in shock.... 2 eggs... 2 sausages, baked beans, bacon... like a whole tomato... mmm anyways...

i was the only person to actually finish a whole thing and then i started on carols... i nearly threw up but thank the gods that my stomach made room somewhere...

anyways... if you are ever in my neck of the woods... have one... or, make one yourself...

so finally i went and saw wicked after however many months of people telling me that i should and blah blah blah...

needless to say it was great and fantastic, although it didnt blow me away like the lion king did... it was pretty cool to see all the little bits of wizard of oz mashed in and the fact that your old pal anthony callea was the tin man... and bloody rob mills was the scarecrow!!!

despite these two idols in the cast, they were actually pretty good... managing to carry off an impressive enough (i thought anyways) american accent...

it was all going good and i was grinning ear to ear when "defying gravity" came on.. and then something went wrong...

THE WICKED BITCH OF THE WEST DIDNT FLY!!!!

the whole time i was watching it... i was like,

"hmmm, it's cool.. but it would be heaps better if she was actually flying since she is singing about it..."

turns out that there was a fault on our night and the cabling or rigging system that lifts her and broomey up into the air wasn't working!!! ARGHHHH

anyways, it was a good night and probably will go back and try our luck with the raffle tickets... here are some pictures from inside the theatre with everyone leaving!!

it has been a while since i have seen my old pal (who now has a blog) leila and we decided what better way to catch up than watch our old favourite tv staple... SURVIVOR!

beforehand we went for a stroll to racecourse road where we ended up at a vietnamese place that i have never even set foot in...

after our teeeeeny entree came out we were up for the main which were both pretty, pretty, pretty average... and we started to wonder what was going on around us...

on closer inspection we noticed that the place was slightly over run by non asians...

and... i think everyone knows what that means...

basically... if there are no native citizens of the country of food on offer it must be bad.. which makes all the whities LOVE IT!!!

and this little sign didnt make things better... you cant even go and have a spring roll... it's gotta be $7 man... chopsticks would not survive if that was their policy!!!

after i inhaled my mediocre meal down and leila got the remains of her average duck soup to go it was off to safeway to buy some supplies and wash the white mans viet food out...

mmmm FLAKE!!

back home to watch some "hells kitchen" and make cookies... earlier on the day i was inspired by the cornflake cookies on the box and because carol had never eaten them before i decided to give them a burl... here we are attempting to make them...!

god... being at work really exposes me to all the shit they release on DVD these days... i mean, yeh it was popular.. but... DVD?? COME ON!!!

but have a look at the covers for both seasons 1 & 3...

and look closer...

not only have they been completely boring in the pictures and whatever... they have just mirror imaged this fuckers head, enlarged it to the point of pixelation and whacked it on some torso they found laying around the photoshop bin.

taking a new photo would have been too much work for the lazy fucks putting this trash into our stores... surely you would do the best you can for your show... i know it isnt fucking HBO or something..

anyways... that is my little rant about that...
